Common storage rack types
A storage rack may be a simple adjustable shelf, a heavy duty rack, a pallet rack or a custom storage system. The correct choice depends on load, daily access and the size of goods being stored.
- Light storage racks for manual picking
- Medium racks for stockrooms and workshops
- Heavy duty racks for large or heavier goods
- Warehouse racking for pallet or forklift operations
Buying checks
Before comparing rack price, confirm load per shelf, total bay load, shelf depth, rack height, aisle width and whether installation is required. These details affect material, packing and delivery cost.
When this is not enough
If the goods are palletised, handled by forklift or stored several metres high, ordinary storage rack may not be the right specification. In that case, plan a pallet racking or heavy duty rack system with load ratings and aisle dimensions.
